Why a research doctorate

The questions need a programme, not a single report.

Clinical training taught me to look carefully at one person. The Master of Public Health changed the unit of analysis. The dissertation was a full systematic review and meta-analysis of kangaroo mother care and weight gain in low-birthweight neonates: a search across five databases, screening, data extraction, risk-of-bias assessment, and a random-effects synthesis. Every inclusion decision had to be written down.

Work in healthcare governance trained a complementary habit. Version control, audit trails, and data-quality checks are not a substitute for research. They are how a quantitative result stays defensible when someone else has to use it.

The projects on this site are how I have been practising the methods I want to take into a European doctorate: cost-effectiveness and budget impact, environmental epidemiology, and transmission models. Several of them use synthetic data on purpose. They show the workflow, the assumptions, and the limits. They are not estimates for a real service, and the health-economics results are not findings from a funded study.

I want to contribute to applied health economics and health services research, where a decision has to carry its uncertainty with it.
